Certified Max and Sammy Bananas (also known as Audiovandal and P.Nice respectively) gained world-wide attention with their series of free monthly mixes released during 2005. The duo are also recognized as world-class party rockers through their two monthly parties in Providence,RI and Cambridge, MA (dubbed the city's "Best anything goes Hip-Hop night") as well as DJ gigs across the country. During the past few years, CB has played alongside an awesome lineup of peers, including The Rub, Low Budget, Flosstradamus, Caps and Jones, Jokers of the Scene, Small Town DJs, Spankrock, and Nick Catchdubs. Certified Bananas belongs to a burgeoning movement of forward-thinking party DJs who reject genre boundaries and rock wildly eclectic sets of thought-provoking superfun music. The two play a fast-paced whirlwind of musical styles anchored by hip-hop, but mixed up with healthy doses of pop, dancehall, electronic music, rock, their own exclusive remixes and just about anything else. The only requirement is that it sounds good and keeps the people moving. In May 2006, CB released their debut full length mix Sprang. The mix packs over 60 songs into an hour that spans innumerable genres and eras, all constructed with a clear direction and innovative flow. Sprang received rave reviews in the DJ world, being dubbed "Amazing" by Hip-Hop Connection and garnering recognition as the #8 local music release of 2006 by the Boston Phoenix. Remixes from the mix include a Baltimore Club version of Little Mermaid classic "Kiss The Girl" as well as a blend of Broken Social Scene's "Cause=Time" with Purple Ribbon's "Kryptonite" which got radio airplay in the US and promotion from BSS's own drummer Justin Peroff. More recently, Certified Bananas have gotten back into the online mix game. In November 2006 they released the free mix Sweden On Blast celebrating the pop music of Sweden, mixed and mashed with recent American pop favorites and In May 2007 they released a 30 minute mix entitled North American Wildlife in collaboration with Canada's own Small Town DJs In other news, P.Nice recently completed official remixes for Electro-Popsters Chromeo as well as platinum UK rock group Editors and is anticipating the release of the sophomore album from his pop/funk band Miss Fairchild. |
